A reset · a beginning

The story starts at home.

Before Bennett and Silas ever earn a name like Ridge Rider, before a compass is placed in Bennett's hand, and long before the woods reveal what they are hiding, there is ordinary life in Valor Ridge.

There is homeschool at the kitchen table. Work beside Mom and Dad. A duck coop that still needs paint. A backyard fort that was built too quickly the first time. Rules that still matter when nobody is watching. Friendship. Scripture. Mistakes. Do-overs. And the habit of looking back honestly at what happened.

The extraordinary adventure will come. Episode One asks a different question first: Who are you becoming before it arrives?

The Work Before the Woods

Bennett and Silas discover that careful work, honest choices, and a strange marker beyond the north fence may all be connected to something their parents have not yet explained.

Faith gives direction. Capability gives service.

The series is built around four currents. None of them stands alone, and no episode needs to preach all four at once.

FaithWhat is true? Scripture, prayer, trust, grace, and following Christ shape the direction of the journey.

CharacterWho am I becoming? Courage, honesty, patience, self-control, humility, loyalty, and perseverance are practiced under pressure.

CompetenceWhat can I actually do? Children learn to think, build, navigate, communicate, solve problems, work, create value, and grow useful skills.

ServiceWho benefits because I became capable? Family, friends, neighbors, and the people entrusted to our care.

The people at the beginning

Meet them before the mystery does.

The story is slowing down on purpose. The reader gets to know the family, the friendship, and the habits that will matter later.

Bennett

Nine. Curious, eager, willing to move first — sometimes before he has thought far enough ahead. He is learning that enthusiasm becomes strength when it is joined to discipline.

Silas

Steady, loyal, grounded, and observant. He notices practical problems Bennett misses and is often willing to be the friend who says, “No. Look again.”

Mom

Teacher, keeper of rhythms, Scripture guide, practical problem-solver, and the parent most likely to ask the question that keeps working long after the school book is closed.

Dad

Builder, teacher, and a man who believes freedom follows responsibility. He does not answer every question simply because Bennett has learned to ask it.

Clara · later on the trail

Warm, observant, capable, and distinctly her own person. Clara notices people, motives, and details the boys often miss. Her introduction comes later — after the world has earned her.

The illustrations are occasional visual anchors, not a picture on every page. The story still asks the reader to imagine — and then rewards that imagination at the moments that matter.

The Ridge Report

Bennett's family already uses after-action reports. When the story ends, the reader is invited to do the same — briefly, naturally, and without turning the adventure into homework.
